Master the race in five steps
Follow this quick walkthrough and try the sample challenge to see exactly how a Wiki Race unfolds.
Step-by-step
Create or join a lobby
Pick a display name and either host a new lobby or enter an existing code. Hosting generates a shareable link your friends can use to join instantly.
Set the challenge
The host selects a starting article and a secret target article. You can type titles manually or paste links straight from Wikipedia.
Countdown and start racing
When everyone is ready the host launches a short countdown. As soon as it hits zero the race begins and the starting article loads for every player.
Navigate using in-article links
You may only click hyperlinks within the Wikipedia page. No search bars, no browser history, and no external shortcuts—just your navigation instincts!
Reach the target first
The first player to arrive on the target article and click the "I found it" button ends the round for everyone. Results, paths, and stats appear instantly.
Example race
Imagine starting on the "Coffee" article with a target of"International Space Station". A winning path might look like:
- "Coffee" → follow the link to "Caffeine"
- Hop to "Neurotransmitter" to learn how the brain responds
- Follow "Astronaut" from the related professions section
- Click "NASA" within the astronaut article
- Finish on "International Space Station"
No two runs are ever the same. Some players chase famous people, others look for country or technology references. The best route is the one you can see first under pressure.
House rules we love
- No back button: once you leave an article you have to commit to the next branch.
- Speed reading allowed: skimming a page is fair game, but copying and pasting words into a search engine is not.
- Share your paths: after the round, compare the links you followed and celebrate the strangest detours.
